Black-backed Woodpecker photographed January 18th at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston. This was a life bird for me.
Some of you may have seen the recent news stories about the senseless slaughter of Snowy Owls at JFK airport. Thankfully, the Port Authority has agreed to work with the Department of Environmental Conservation to relocate Snowy Owls captured at New York and New Jersey airports.
NBC’s Today Show covered this story and used some of my footage in their broadcast. You can view my complete footage of Norman Smith releasing a Snowy Owl on my Zenfolio page.
And here’s a video recorded last Sunday on a very overcast day just before sunset while sitting in my vehicle. The owl sat on the ledge looking towards the ocean for almost one hour before taking flight. Enjoy.
It was more than a few years ago Jim Grady and I decided on our next video project after completing our hawk watch video “Looking Skyward”. That project was a shorebird video and it’s titled “Epic Journeys”. Earlier this year we had the debut of this 30 minute video at the Massachusetts Audubon Society 20th Annual Birders Meeting. It was not quite 100% complete at the time, still needing it’s final sound track from composer Chris Duval and a few additional minor “tweaks”.
I am now happy to report we have the music from Chris and it sounds GREAT and all final adjustments have been made by video editor Jim Grady. In addition Sabina Grady has completed the graphics and cover design, see below, looks GREAT! With that Jim and I are HAPPY to announce “Epic Journeys” is finished and ready for viewing and sale. In fact earlier this month, we presented the video to the Hartford Bird Club to what I will report as very positive reviews.
So at this time we are actively promoting the video to any bird or natural history organization that may be interested in having us show it to your group. We have many dates booked all over the eastern half of the US from now until next April. See our Projects>Live Events & Workshops page for dates and times. In addition to the many live presentations I’ve also done two radio interviews to help promote “Epic Journeys”. See this link for my interview on Ray Brown’s Talking Birds and this link for my interview on Inquiry with Mark Lynch.
For anyone interested in having Migration Productions present “Epic Journeys” to your group or event, please contact us. To purchase this video, we hope to have it available through Buteo Books later this year, stay tuned or check-in with the folks at Buteo Books.
Finally, for those that are interested, I have a photo project I have been working on this year. I’ve been taking at least one photo each day and posting it to a web gallery, click this link to see my “Photo of the Day”. It’s been a lot of fun and I’ve found it very interesting to see some of the people, places and other “things” I’ve photographed over the year. It’s also help me to remember something if even a small thing about each day this year which is not something I could have done if not for taking a photo(s) every day. I hope you will check it out and enjoy it as much as I have.
Take care and remember to get outdoors and enjoy and protect the natural world.
